Hoods

Everyone says that Atlanta is split up in 3 main parts: Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead. I hope I got this right.

Anyway, Atlanta is a lot bigger than that; it feels like a huge sprawling suburb with strip malls and an abundance of empty condos.  Don’t get me wrong, you can find some awesome eats in those strip malls and the condos are nice since they’re newly built (even if it’s at the wrong time).  But, the urban planning is not the most convenient or attractive; personally I find it boring.  The nice restaurants and  office buildings are mainly clustered in Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead but it’s odd to me that these three areas are so spread apart; you have to drive awhile to get to each section.

I’m still trying to discover what is just a neighborhood nickname or what is an actual town.  For instance, I believe Buckhead is not a municipality but a name for that northern Atlanta business district.  It would be helpful for me to learn the cities and municipalities quickly so I know if I should enter “Sandy Springs” or “Buckhead” in my GPS instead of Atlanta.

My experience of Atlanta is purely that. This is not intended to be a comprehensive list but will be fleshed out as I discover more places.

Buckhead: Where many businesses, high-end malls, shops, and restaurants are located.  I have eaten at Market, Jean Geroges’ restaurant at the W, and have also hung out at Tavern at Phipps, where waitresses with short dresses and skirts abound.

Sandy Springs: suburb near Buckhead.

Midtown: Like Buckhead but even more urban and busier. It’s also where I go to church, which is conveniently near a Krispy Kreme. Georgia Tech and Piedmont Park, (Atlanta’s Central Park as I like to call it) are also here.

Downtown: CNN, Coca-Cola museum, Olympic Park and the Aquarium are all clustered here. Naturally, all the tourists come here.

Duluth: New Korea town.  There are so many Korean stores and restaurants here, including the Honey Pig BBQ chain.
